BIOGRAPHY OF MRS HANNAH ANNOBIL-ACQUAH

BY THE EXTENDED FAMILY

“Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.”     Isaiah 57:1-2 (NLT)

We celebrate the life of a daughter, a niece, a mother, a sister, and a good friend whose young enterprising life has been cut short by death which has shaken our world beyond measure - the world of the Ekuona Family of Asamang Ashanti. We shudder to think that our dearly beloved Mrs. Hannah Annobil-Acquah known in the traditional family as Amma Konadu is no more. But as the Prophet has said, “No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.”

The late Hannah Annobil-Acquah was born on 8 April 1972 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. She was the firstborn of Opanin Emmanuel Kwaku Boakye, a Mechanic from Mfensi, and Madam Adwoa Addai, a petty trader and a housewife, from Asamang all in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Education: Hannah started her primary education in 1978 at the Cambridge International School, Kumasi, and continued to the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast from 1986 to 1993. Following her excellence at High School, she proceeded to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to pursue a first-degree course in Land Economy from 1994 to 1999. Hannah excelled and obtained her first degree with First Class Honors.

Hannah was such a brilliant student that she loved education and made it look easy to pursue. In 2000 she was awarded a Shell Scholarship and proceeded to Cambridge University in the United Kingdom where she obtained her postgraduate degree with distinction in 2001. She returned to Ghana to continue her career in her motherland.

Marriage: Hannah met her beloved husband Mr. David Annobil-Acquah of Bank of Ghana in the mid1990s and finally got married on 19 October 2000 AD in Kumasi. Until her demise, Ama lived peacefully with her husband in Accra. God blessed the young couple with two lovely daughters – Ms. Gyaawa Annobil-Acquah and M.s Nana Ama Larko Annobil-Acquah.

Working Life: Following her successful first degree at KNUST, Hannah undertook the

mandatory one-year National Service as a Tutor at Asuoyeboah MA School, Kumasi from 1999 to 2000. She helped the physically Challenged inmates at the Edwinase Disabled home with their outdoor activities.   She worked briefly with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as a research associate on her return from the UK in 2001. She joined the Stanbic Bank in Accra in 2002 to pursue a banking career. As a young Officer in the Management trainee program of the Bank, Hannah performed her duty with tact and a high sense of responsibility, impacting positively on the lives of all who worked with her. It is no wonder that she progressed through the ranks of the Bank and became the Head of Personal Market of Stanbic.

In 2018, Hannah moved on to join the First National Bank Ghana as the Head of Retail Banking. Here too, she continued to excel not only in her normal banking work schedule but also in her people development aptitude. We can say that Hannah was a “Peoples’ Manager” and was loved by both the junior and senior management staff of the Bank. From all indications, Amma was heading for much more senior management roles in the Bank in the very near future had death not painfully terminated her promising career. FNB has lost a key personnel.

Sports: Hannah bee as affectionately called by her colleagues in WGHS was the Sports Prefect in 1992/93 academic year. She took part in track and field events particularly in the short distances (100m, 200m and 400m). She was also member of the then Central Regional Hockey team, KNUST Athletic team who has university’s 100 meters’ record in her name. and the StarChord Cycling group of Baatsona. Hannah took part in Tema-West circuit Methodist annual sport programs (Volleyball and Athletics). In the last 13 years, she developed a keen interest in Lawn Tennis always wishing her favorite player s SERENA and NOVAK become the all-time best.

Christian Service & Personal Relations: Hannah believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and was a very active member of the Gethsemane Methodist Church in Accra where she was a Class Leader and a Brigade Captain.  She was deeply loved by the Church.

Even though Hannah lived in Accra, she never forgot the local church back home at Asamang-Ashanti. She periodically remitted funds to the local church to pursue its development programmes. Asamang Methodist Church will miss Hannah very dearly as they work to complete their Church Auditorium which she contributed significantly to its development

Hannah believed in the Christian principle of “God loves a cheerful giver” and gave cheerfully to the needy wherever an opportunity came her way. She no wonder had the vision to set up a Children's Home in Kumasi on her retirement to cater for the vulnerable children of the society. That is the nature of our beloved Hannah Annobil-Acquah for whose sake we read this Biography to the world.

Hannah was not an “absentee family member”. While alive she used to remit funds to relatives in the hometown. She contributed in no small way to helping many back home. Sometimes, she made no distinction between biological relations and others in her quest to support the needy. Hannah was such a good young woman.

Transition: On Monday, 12 July 2021 at the Cardio-Centre of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital the beloved husband of Hannah and her uncle stood in awe and dumbfounded over the cold body of Hannah who passed on at about 2.30 pm. She had been admitted to the Centre three days earlier and hoped to be operated on at an appropriate time.

The Ekuona Family of Asamang Ashanti has really lost a star. A gem of the family is gone. But in the hope of the resurrection of the dead in Christ, we give thanks to God. We are comforted that Hannah is resting in the “bosom of Abraham” where the faithful in Christ who fall asleep are comforted.

Rest in perfect peace, our dearly beloved. Sleep well our Princess. Amma, may the Good Lord bless and keep you safe till we meet again in the land beyond.
